GROUP SUPERVISION FOR EDUCATORS

Starting in September 2020, Dr. Eli Green will be holding year long group supervision cohorts for educators teaching transgender and non-binary content. (The 2020-21 cohort will be limited to TOT alums). Eli is a formally trained sexuality educator with an MA in Applied Gender Studies, MEd in Human Sexuality Education and a PhD in Sexuality Studies, and a great passion for teaching transgender and non-binary related content and social justice. He is a Certified Sexuality Education Supervisor through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors & Therapists (AASECT), and has been providing group supervision for educators for over 5 years.  Eli **LOVES** nerding out on the nuances of teaching related content, swapping facilitation strategies and providing technical assistance and guidance to other educators.

We know there are a lot of great folks doing good work in isolation, and we are creating an intentional space to come together to learn, and support each other in doing this important work during difficult times!

We will be holding two groups for TOT Alumni: one exclusively for trans and non-binary identified educators, and one open to anyone of any gender identity. Group participants often find it most useful to participate in supervision when they are facilitating at least one training a month, or, are actively writing new training materials. We also strongly recommend checking out one of our Training-of-Trainers courses if you can, as this will dovetail with much of the work in Group. A copy of the Teaching Transgender Toolkit is also recommended.

After an initial “getting to know you” session, each group will start off with a general life and work check-in, and then individuals will have 20-30 minutes to explore a topic of their choosing. It could be a recent training, a facilitation challenge, workshop a new idea, material feedback and review, talk about professional development and career building, negotiation of personal and professional boundaries, self-care, Imposters’ Syndrome — truly whatever is impacting your work or you would like support around. Each session will close with a question assigned to ponder for report back in the next session and the individuals will sign-up to present in the next session. Throughout the group, we will be focusing on helping each other to grow personally and professionally, including recognizing and supporting the unlearning of internalized oppressions and operating from a place of social justice.

Group supervision meets once a month for 12 months.

Groups will be held on selected Tuesday evenings (6:30-8:30 EST) / Tuesday afternoons (3:30-5:30 PST) and will be held via Zoom. Whenever possible we request participation via webcam, in a quiet place with reliable wifi and mic’d headphones.

Groups range from 4-8 people, and we will strive to make sure everyone in the group is complementary as far as experience, knowledge and approach. We ask that participants sign-up with the intention to complete the full 12 months and attend at least 10 out of 12 sessions.

To make this feasible and as accessible to as many as we can, group supervision is a pay what you can sliding scale, paid monthly on the 1st. When those who have more pay more, this makes it possible for people with less to participate.
