Research In Brief Series: Impact of Affirming Treatment & Care
Anti-transgender discrimination has an immense negative impact on the lives of transgender and nonbinary people. It is often associated with violence, negative mental health outcomes like depression and suicidality, limited access to healthcare, stable employment, and social support. Negative outcomes like these are often cited as rationale for the need to engage in supportive and affirming care with transgender and nonbinary people. So what happens when trans folx are affirmed in their identities, and get the treatment and care they need? Join us for a brief, 20-minute webinar reviewing the growing research on the outcomes of affirming care through social, legal, and medical transition.
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- List three ways transgender and nonbinary people can be affirmed in pursuing social, legal, and/or medical transition
- Identify at least one positive outcome associated with affirming treatment and care through social, legal, and medical transition
