Including Transgender Topics Across K-12 Curriculum – 2/5/21, 4-5 ET/1-2PT

February 5 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

This 1-hour session is designed for K-12 educators who want to learn more about crafting a transgender and non-binary inclusive curriculum.

Surveys show us that LGBTQ+ youth feel safer in schools when the curriculum they are learning reflects their identities. Whether you are working on art projects with elementary schoolers, holding math class in middle school, or teaching high school literature, you can help your transgender and non-binary students feel reflected in the content. When educators work hard to make their classroom a space where all students can feel engaged and seen, they are creating lifelong learners. Are you an educator who wants to ensure your classroom content is inclusive and expansive? This one hour session is designed for K-12 educators who want to learn more about crafting a transgender and non-binary inclusive curriculum. Reflective exercises will help educators understand why representation matters and explore the power of building intersectional curriculum. Together we will review examples of strategies for incorporating transgender and non-binary topics into their lessons. Educators from all fields are welcome to attend.

This session will help participants develop an increased understanding of how to incorporate transgender and non-binary topics into K-12 curriculum so that they can build their own gender inclusive curriculum.

By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

  1. Explain two reasons why transgender and non-binary representation is important to all K-12 students.
  2. Name one to two strategies for incorporating transgender and non-binary topics into curriculum.
