Foundations 102: Beyond the Binary
Did you know that 1 out of 4 LGBTQ youth and 1 out of 10 LGBTQ adults are non-binary? Did you know humans have always existed outside of the gender binary? This training explores non-binary specific terminology, cultural context, and best practices to ensure non-binary people are being respected and valued. Expanding beyond the content from the mini webinars of Getting Comfortable with Pronouns and Non-Binary Basics, this training further explores what it means to be non-binary, and the ways in which the world can be uniquely hostile for our non-binary peers. Through activities and group discussion, we will learn the history behind non-binary communities and identities, practice using affirming pronouns, and walk away with a deeper awareness of honoring and respecting gender non-conforming individuals.
Participants will be able to
- accurately define the gender binary
- identify 2-3 positive outcomes associated with using a person’s affirming pronouns
- name 2-3 actions one could take to support non-binary communities

We understand that COVID has tossed a lot people’s finances into long term flux and we want to make our courses accessible. We are operating from a place of inviting folks to pay what you can. Suggested range: $40 – 80. Suggested minimum: $25.
Continuing Education (CE) Credits:
This program meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 1 hour of CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification.
AASECT CEs are accepted by many mental health and medical credentialing bodies – please check with your board about how AASECT credits can be transferred. (Each board is different, and we would never want to misguide you, so we are unable to advise about whether or not your board will accept AASECT credits.)
