Becoming an intersectional disrupter in service of transgender & non-binary individuals and communities.

Becoming a Transformational Social Service Provider

This course focuses on key thoughts, reflections, and actions that will position an individual working in the social services field to become an intersectional disrupter. This includes disrupting systems of harm impacting trans & non-binary folks seeking services at your organizations, harm impacting trans & non-binary folks who work alongside you in the field, and disrupting harmful culture and policies inside of our communities that have lasting impacts on trans & non-binary people across the country.

Using individual reflection time, small group breakouts, and larger group discussions, participants will engage in authentic reflection of self and consider their own personal mission statement, or their “why” in relationship to the mission statement of their organizations and programs. We will consider Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and how to help clients actualize their full selves.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of identity in creating equitable spaces through self inventory and reflection
  • Identify 3 values core to their own personal mission statement
  • Identify 2 or more places their personal values and mission aligns with the values and mission of the organization that they work for, and 2 or more places where they do not align.
  • Identify 1 goal that will jumpstart their plan of action to create equitable experiences for trans & non-binary folks

Sliding Scale Rates:

We want folks who want to attend to be able to do so, regardless of economic constraints, while also making sure that we are operating in accordance with our values of paying our trainers fairly for their time, energy and lived experiences, while using sustainable business practices.  (Please see our blog post here for a deeper dive into how we selected our sliding scale structure.)  The full cost of attendance is $275 per person. We set aside a certain number of Sliding Scale spaces, but when folks who can afford to pay more do (Benefactors), we are able to use the difference in price to make another sliding scale seat available to those in need at this or a future offering.  Please use our handy graphic to help determine your registration level

  • $275-$375 – 15+ seats available  (Full Price [$275] & Benefactor levels [$300, $325, $375])
  • $175- 3 seats available (Sliding Scale)
  • $75 – 2 seats available (Sliding Scale)

(Each board is different, and we would never want to misguide you, so we are unable to advise about whether or not your board will accept AASECT credits.)

AASECT Certification Disclaimer
